Open Day on the Day of the Hungarian Culture

Related to the Day of the Hungarian Culture and marking the beginning of János Arany Memorial Year, on January 20, 2017 the manuscript of Toldi, a narrative poem by János Arany will be on display for one day in National Széchényi Library. Literary historian Dr. Zsuzsanna Rózsafalvi, staff member of NSZL’s Manuscript Collection will deliver public lectures on the history of the manuscript on several occasions throughout the day.

The manuscript of Toldi will be exhibited in Boardroom 516, between 12 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Dr. Zsuzsanna Rózsafalvi will deliver lectures according to the following schedule:

  • 2 p.m.
  • 3 p.m.
  • 4 p.m.
  • 5 p.m.

Library tours guided by our colleagues will allow you to get a glimpse of the history of the 215-year old National Széchényi Library, holding some 8 million library items. Tours will start from the Main Entrance of the Library at 14.30 and at 16.30.

Presentation ceremony of the book entitled A magyar hangosfilm plakátjai (Posters of Hungarian Sound Films 1931-1944) will begin at 3 p.m.

In the Bookshop at  the Main Entrance of the Library, you can buy NSZL publications.Velvet-bound noble copy of Hymn will be available for HUF 4,600, and the Ferenc Kölcsey Special Issue of Irodalmi magazin (Literary Magazine) will be priced HUF 1,590 on January 20, 2017.

Only on January 20, NSZL will give 50-percent discount from the annual fee of library registration. During the day, our Reading Rooms can be visited with a free daily ticket, and our exhibitions can be visited with a free entrance ticket.

You can register for a Reader Pass and get a free ticket to our exhibitions until 7 p.m.
