About the book: 24 Carats is a play and tribute on behalf of contemporary poets who sent in their poems – toast, homage, pastiche, paraphrase, ballad – on the festive invitation of National Széchényi Library, and who forwarded their autograph manuscripts to the jubilee exhibition entitled Others get laurel only by leaves…” – Treasures, cult, impact history. The 100 manuscripts and author’s reflections came in within a short time, and they clearly show how János Arany’s verse epic, his poems, poetic craftsmanship and genius, creative and human attitudes, and whole figure live and seethe in deeply, and often not even spectacularly but rather under the surface, in people and creative artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Unit of selection from the works sent in was, playfully and referring to numbers and precious metals, the carat. Presenting contemporary writers’ various relations to and emotions towards János Arany, the anthology lets the poems of different genres, styles and tones prevail. On the whole, the various playoffs of form and theme, and emotional-intellectual poem reflections provide a 100-percent gold backing, which makes us safely say: pure Arany (Gold).

24 Carats, 48 authors, 50 poems: let them be divided, multiplied, or exponentiated, no matter if we speak of 100 or 200, the point is that Arany (Gold) is Arany (Gold) and always will be.
