The new operating order of National Széchényi Library

Hereby we inform our readers and the visitors of our cultural programs that, due to extraordinary tasks (network development, change of furniture, building of a digitization center, asbestos removal) related to the IT and infrastructural development of the Hungarian national library, NSZL will partially be closed as of June 18, 2019.

At the same time, from May 9 until June 15, 2019, repository queries related to documents (books, periodicals) belonging to the General Collection can be submitted Tuesday to Friday between 12 a.m. and 7 p.m., on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. In case of microfilms, there will be no change in repository service.

During this period, in the mornings, the Library staff will work on the launch of a new automatic document identification system (RFID labelling).

 

During the partial closing of the Library

  1. From June 18 until July 20, 2019, only the Special Collections of the Library will be open to readers.
  2. The usual summer closure of the Library will last from July 20 until August 20 in 2019.
  3. The cultural programs of the Library (such as exhibitions, conferences, book presentation ceremonies, etc.) will temporarily be suspended from June 1 until September 30, 2019, or they will be held at venues outside NSZL. Our readers will be provided with detailed information on these events. Our other services and the Souvenir Shop next to the Main Entrance will keep on operating.
  4. In the timeframe indicated above, as part of the Hauszmann Program, building of an accessible elevator will be started at the north front of the building.  Our website will keep on informing Library readers and visitors about investments and building reconstruction works affecting our daily operations.
