Volume of studies on Mohács – book presentation

A volume of studies entitled „Nekünk mégis Mohács kell…” II. Lajos király rejtélyes halála és különböző temetései (“We Still Need Mohács…” The Mysterious Death and Various Burials of King Louis II), published jointly by the Research Centre for the Humanities of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and National Széchényi Library, will be presented in Budapest History Museum on August 29, 2016, on the on the 490th anniversary of the Battle of Mohács. The event will start at 5.30 p.m.

The edited and revised materials of lectures delivered at the scientific conference held in NSZL on August 29, 2015 were published jointly by the Research Centre for the Humanities of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and National Széchényi Library. The book entitled „Nekünk mégis Mohács kell…” II. Lajos király rejtélyes halála és különböző temetései (“We Still Need Mohács…” The Mysterious Death and Various Burials of King Louis II) discusses the significance and consequences of the Battle of Mohács, and it also highlights the much debated circumstances of the death and burials of King Louis II on more than three hundred pages and within an interdisciplinary framework.

Edited by staff members of NSZL’s Early Printed Books Collection Farkas Gábor Farkas,  Zsolt Szebelédi and Bernadett Varga, this gap-filling volume of studies is aimed at everyone who is interested in the Battle of Mohács, a major turning point in the history of Hungary, and in the history of the country during the Ottoman rule. The volume offers the most complete compilation ever of sources on the death of King Louis II (1526–1800), and it also features a rich gallery of images.
