In honor of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, NSZL will hold a conference on October 16, 2017. From the perspective of publication, book and binding history, or content, lecturers will present prints, series of prints and manuscripts kept in major historical libraries that played a symbolic or representative role in the history of the Reformation.

The Theater History Collection of our Library cordially invites you and your friends to the opening ceremony of an exhibition, entitled “…let it be faithful to idea and form, yet free…”, about the first Hungarian edition of Complete Works by Shakespeare on the occasion of the János Arany Memorial Year. The event will start at 5 p.m. on October 5, 2017.

A conference entitled Library marketing, or scenes of library publicity was held in Szeged on September 28, 2017. Péter Tóth, staff member of National Széchényi Library also held a presentation at the conference.
Exhibition about the first Hungarian edition of Complete Works by Shakespeare on the occasion of the János Arany Memorial Year. The first volume (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Othello) was published in 1864, while the last one (Sonnets) was published in 1878. Our exhibition presents publication history including János Arany’s contribution, role and translations of Shakespeare plays.

On October 4, 2017, ELTE University Library and Archives will hold a conference entitled “Paradigm Shift in Libraries?”. Two staff members of National Széchényi Library, Ágnes Rácz and Miklós Lendvay will also deliver presentations at the professional meeting.

The first event of a further training series entitled Modern Library, Advanced Services will focus on the state of library digitization in Hungary, the digitization strategy of NSZL and the digitizing center to be set up here, as well as on the digital content service providing method used at the University of Pécs.

Priority project entitled “Acting Communities – Active Community Involvement” EFOP-1.3.1-15-2016-00001, the primary aim of which is to strengthen social cohesion by way of an increased involvement of cultural institutions (libraries, museums, public education institutions), was launched last September. NSZL has been playing a significant role in the program.

On Friday October 13, 2017, National Széchényi Library will host a professional day focusing on archiving internet content and on related tasks public collections are facing.
PEN Club Hungary has organized an exhibition of Sándor Finta’s (1881–1958) works in National Széchényi Library. The exhibition focuses mainly on Finta’s Brazilian period but it also gives a glimpse of his activities in Hungary and during his later stay in the United States.
