This volume of the edited and enhanced material of the research conference held on 29 August 2015 at National Széchényi Library is a joint publication of NSZL and the Research Centre for the Humanities of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. More than 300 pages are dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of the importance and consequences of the Battle of Mohács and the controversial death and funeral of King Louis II. of Hungary.

The present work edited by Farkas Gábor Farkas, Zsolt Szebelédi and Bernadett Varga is recommended to all Hungarians interested in one of the crucial turning points of our history, the Battle of Mohács, and the following Ottoman occupation. An excerpt from the blurb: „Indeed, we still need Mohács, and this is proved by the fact that from generation to generation we continue asking the disquieting question of what had been lost on 29 August 1526. Can anything new be said about this topic after so much source analysis, archeological work and academic debate has been concluded? As the researches of the recent years point out, yes, there is always some novelty for us to be amazed at. Our book tries to find out through a new approach to old sources and turning to several branches of natural science and humanities, what really happened to King Louis II. of Hungary, and where he was buried after the battle. The list of authors includes an anthropologist, a coronary, a historian, an Ottoman expert, a philologist and a librarian.”

Together with the texts, we present the most complete index so far of sources related to the death of King Louis II. of Hungary (1526-1800), and a rich material of illustrations.
