Another volume has been added to the Hungarian retrospective bibliography. Géza Petrik’s The Bibliography of Hungary 1712-1860 (Budapest 1888-1892), originally of four volumes, now has a new supplement including prints published in Hungary and abroad in Hungarian or partly in Hungarian, between 1701 and 1800. There are 3782 new bibliography items in this volume, which increases the number of registered books of 18th century Hungarian national bibliography to a total of 30,417.

What makes the present work special is that it enumerates a great amount of prints published in Transylvania, many of which were not classified by Petrik. Due to the difficulties of research in that area, neither the earlier supplementary volumes of the bibliography included them. Therefore, approximately two thirds of the titles in the present volume are from libraries, archives and museums of Transylvania and Partium. Libraries in Hungary provided much less new data now, but in turn, new possibilities of research opened in the Zakarpattia Oblast of Ukraine. Another unique feature of this volume is that its items are rarities, many of them with only one or two copies left.

The bibliography was completed by the Department of Research in Book and Cultural History of National Széchényi Library, and edited by Eszter Kovács and Judit V. Ecsedy.
