Alajos Hauszmann was one of the most prolific Hungarian architects of the 19th century and the most characteristic representative of Historicism. He was commissioned to lead the works of reconstruction in the Buda Royal Castle after the death of Miklós Ybl.

Hauszmann, a renowned architect and university professor presented the historic past of the castle to the wide public in this trilingual (Hungarian, German, French) monograph in 1912. The history told with pictures and blueprints is accompanied by illustrations and interior photos of the 19th century reconstruction works. The original of this reprint published by the Kossuth Publishing House and NSZL belongs to the collection of National Széchényi Library.
