Excerpt from the blurb: “The title of this work does not intend to limit the reader’s scope of interpretation. It simply suggests an interpretation that is definitely valuable. For two decades now, the study of identities has been a significant area of history disciplines within Hungarian social science research. The complex questions resulted in relevant answers and opened a broader area to certain methodical procedures especially in the research of the interpreter’s perception and collective cultural memory. Texts are to be analyzed both individually and in the context of the collection they are part of to understand their background of cultural identity. And as soon as the past turns into memory, a historical study of the institutions in which the symbolic forms were forged will be necessary in order to explore their genesis. We hope that our studies of history of music, literature, press and collection-building offer an interesting reading with their plethora of data, problems exposed and solutions suggested.”
