On October 9, 2015, Gaëlle Béquet, Director of Paris-based ISSN International Centre paid a visit to the National Széchényi Library. Our guest was received by János Káldos, Deputy Director-General of National Széchényi Library and Elizabeth Gazdag from ISSN Hungary. Gaëlle Béquet handed over to our director the special „ISSN 40th anniversary” issue of the Brazilian journal Ciência da informação. This thematic issue was published for the 40th anniversary of the foundation of the ISSN network, and it contains some 150 pages of studies and articles in English on the past and present advancement of the ISSN system.

Our guest from Paris, who visited Budapest for the first time, showed a great interest in the presentation of the library building, the institution and the various collections.

Colleagues of the library provided her with professional information in the Apponyi-Room (Manuscripts Reading Room and Early Printed Books Archive) and in the Map Collection, then she got acquainted with NSZL’s ongoing digitization projects at the Department of E-Library Services. She was particularly interested in the activities of the Electronic Periodicals Archive & Database and in the processes of the digitization of old periodicals.

Finally, Gaëlle Béquet got detailed information on the work at the Legal Deposit and Publication ID Management Department which incorporates ISSN Hungary, as well. As our national centre has been part of the ISSN network since its very beginning, she could capture some „historical objects” of our office and archive. The visit lasted long in the afternoon, and was finished with a refreshing cultural tour of the Buda Castle District.
