In accordance with the Government Decree No. 194/2021. (IV.26.), the National Széchényi Library (NSZL) and the Library Institute’s Library of Book History, Library and Information Science (KSZK) will again receive readers with immunity certificate starting from May 4, 2021, in compliance with the health protection regulations introduced due to the coronavirus infection.

The library’s general collection reading rooms and the KSZK are open from Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 5pm

The special collections are open to readers from Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm, just like the reading rooms of the General Collection and the Library Science Library.

In accordance with epidemiological regulations, we limit the number of readers in the library to 50 at the same time, which is checked at the entry point to ensure that the appropriate physical distance is maintained. Once the maximum number of readers has been reached, no further readers are allowed to enter the library.

  1. In order to protect the health of our readers and colleagues, we ask you to respect the following epidemiological rules in the building.

Upon arrival, it is compulsory to use the non-contact hand sanitiser device and to comply with the body temperature measurement at the cloakroom. The proof of immunity must be presented at the cloakroom in the form of the immunity certificate and identity card (or other official document certifying identity). A safety distance of at least 1.5 metres between people is mandatory throughout the premises, and the wearing of a mask or protective shield covering the face (both mouth and nose) is recommended.

  2. Library registration is open from Tuesday to Friday until 16.30. Readers with monthly, half-year and annual reader passes do not need to return the book bags on departure and will be replaced when worn out. We kindly ask our readers with day passes to return the book bag, which will only be reissued after disinfection.
  3. The procedure for requesting a place number at the book issue station remains unchanged: the reader will be informed of the arrival of a document from the repository by means of the place number.
  4. Individual reading areas have been set up at a safe distance from each other in the general reading room and in the KSZK. Readers can choose the table that suits them best, depending on availability.
  5. After use, please place the open shelf books on the book trolleys provided for this purpose, so that the library can ensure their separation.
  6. For increased security, we are temporarily suspending the use of the readers' professional workstations and all other desktop computers, so please bring your own device if possible. For readers who do not have their own mobile computing device, our colleagues in the central information desk or at the information desks in the general reading room and the KSZK will provide them with the requested shelf number.
  7. Free WIFI is available to our readers in the common areas of the library.
  8. A limited number of workstations are available in the microfiche reading room and are disinfected after use.
  9. To minimise physical contact, we will temporarily suspend our microfiche copying, stenographic copying and self-service reprographic services. Requests for document copying will be fulfilled within 10 working days, either electronically or by mail. Please submit requests on paper in the microfiche reading room or send them electronically to masolatkeszites@oszk.hu. Payment of the service fee can be made by bank transfer or cash on delivery.
  10. We will create a more comfortable space for reading and chatting in the armchairs in the catalogue area.
  11.  We accept your repository requests until 4 pm
  12. The submission of repository requests and the notification of the fulfilment of requests shall be made in the same form. We will continue to provide the possibility of setting aside books in the repository, but exchanging books between readers will not be available.
  13. Document lending is still possible in the KSZK. Returned documents will be quarantined for 72 hours.
  14. For the protection of our readers, returned documents from the repository will be quarantined for 72 hours, during which time we will not be able to distribute them.

To ensure safe operation, disinfecting and cleaning the building, especially in the toilets, takes place on a regular basis, and the library staff strictly follow the epidemiological regulations.
