Milestone in Mikes Kelemen Program: as of April 19, 2015 book returned to Hungary are available on demand.

The State Secretariat for Hungarian Communities Abroad of the Prime Minister’s Office, National Széchényi Library and the National Archives of Hungary held a joint press conference about the results Mikes Kelemen Program has reached so far.

Until March, 2016, 186 cubic meters of library and archival documents, equaling approximately 200,000 items, have been collected at collection sites in the US and Australia. The majority of the material has arrived in Hungary and its processing has also been started. Donating private persons and Hungarian organizations operating abroad sent not only books and periodicals but also small prints, photographs and audio materials.

Incoming donations provide a huge, unmatched resource for filling in the gap in the hungarica collection of National Széchényi Library. Documents, which are not included in NSZL’s stock, will be offered to other Hungarian public collections, education sites and to libraries operating beyond the borders of Hungary.

From now on, lists of documents available on demand will be published regularly on our website.

Staff member of National Széchényi Library Árpád Maczelka was delegated to Melbourne as a researcher. He reported on his assignment in our blog.
