This unique illustrated album, published to mark the 200th anniversary of the founding of the National Széchényi Library, is the most complete presentation of our most precious national treasures to date. These treasures are rarely seen by the general public, as their storage and preservation require special protection, but being aware of their existence is essential to understand the meaning of the frequently expressed statement that we were, are and will be the bearers of culture.

This book is the written and printed history of a thousand years of Hungary's history. The most important task of the book is to show, to describe these artworks. József Hapák was able to photograph all the value that cannot be measured in money, which will probably be hidden in the depths of repositories again in the next hundred years. The professional yet easy-to-follow text is written by the curators of each collection. The volume is richly annotated.
