Zsigmond Móricz is an emblematic figure of 20th century classical Hungarian literature. Although his writings were published in several series, his publishing history is far from “complete works”. These writings, which had been hiding and were published only in periodicals (in a total of 79), reveal the thousand faces of Móricz: the beginner and mature, the serious as well as playful, lyrical and impartial, enamored and disenchanted, fictional and documentalist writer. We tend to classify him into the simplified category of a “folk writer”, but the present book will show that while Móricz did belong to this category, yet he was much more than that, a prominent writer of 20th century world literature. Short stories, feuilletons, vignettes, pen sketches, confessions, declarations and reports published here not only fine-tune the writer’s portrait, but also provide readers with a plethora of astonishingly new information. This decorative volume may well become a book sensation of the year.
