In 1950, fourteen codices belonging to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hungary were deposited in National Széchényi Library. On Sunday November 11, 2018, the volumes will ceremoniously be returned to the property of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
The Choir of National Széchényi Library cordially invites you and your friends to a memorial program compiled from Edvard Grieg’s works, to be held on November 16, 2018. The composer will be remembered by Mária Eckhardt, Széchenyi Award-winning music historian, choir master of the Library Choir.
On November 5, Minister of Human Resources Miklós Kasler opened the unique exhibition entitled The Corvina Library and the Buda Workshop, which will be open for three months as of November 6, 2018.
NSZL’s new internet service allows its users to fully overview fifty-five corvinas kept in Hungary and nine corvinas owned by Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel. Bibliographies, descriptions of book bindings, and several curiosities can also be accessed on the Hungarian and English language website.
The 8th World Congress of Hungarian Librarians will be held on November 6 and 7, 2018. The slogan for this year’s program is the following: European Culture – National Heritage. Venue of the second day of the world meeting will be National Széchényi Library.
The exhibition opening on November 6, 2018 aims at exploring a so far hidden, less emphasized aspect of King Matthias Hunyadi’s library. In addition to the codices ordered from Italy, similarly precious and decorative manuscripts were made in the royal court as well. The aim of the exhibition is to explore and present the systematic and grandiose endeavor, serving the formation of the royal library in the court of Buda.
Dr. László Tüske, Director-General of National Széchényi Library took part in the work of the 3rd World Congress of Reading where he delivered a lecture on digital literacy in Hungary.
Due to technical reasons, the General Reading Room of National Széchényi Library will be closed temporarily.
We are looking forward to seeing you at our program entitled “In the wake of language relics, codices and old books”. To be held on Friday September 28, 2018, the event is related to Researchers’ Night 2018. The program will include a mini exhibition and a mini conference.
