The 70th jubilee exhibition of Noémi szeredi Ambrus will be open in the Ars Librorum exhibition space of National Széchényi Library.

Biography
Noémi szeredi Ambrus was born in Budapest in 1966. She began her arts studies by specializing in drawing, but later she graduated from textile studies at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest (MOME). In addition to studies in arts and drawing, she gradually started making creations of her own design and of a unique technique, the special atmosphere of which comes from the applied materials and the process displayed by the artist.

Her tapestries and textile pictures are fine handicraft pieces, meticulously made from rethought and long forgotten old noble fabrics (silk, velvet, lace and brocade), interiors of elegant chateaus or draperies coming from sacred spaces. Their metamorphosis is due to Noémi szeredi Ambrus, so they survive in their present form as works of art, yet they carry with themselves their tradition, while they act like a tapestry, a mirror or a “textile painting”. With memories of times gone by or by touching the spheres of science, they create a special eclectic atmosphere. Their essence happens to lie in this fusion of modern and “antique”. Several of the textile paintings by Noémi szeredi Ambrus have been included in public as well as private collections.

“During creative work, sometimes lasting for weeks, these pictures go through transubstantiation. During this process, I discovered and started to use old photographs, worn out textiles, the majority of which came from cast-off clothes of old furniture, old velvet skirts, silk shirts, purls, table-clothes and collars. They come to new life and preserve the mystery of their past, enriched, at the same time, with new content.”  (Noémi szeredi Ambrus)

The exhibition will be open between June 16 and July 16, 2016, during the opening hours of NSZL (Tuesday to Saturday from 9 a.m. till 8 p.m.), in the Ars Librorum exhibition space on Floor 6 of the Library.
