On Thursday November 14, 2019, starting at 10.30 and lasting until 14.30, National Széchényi Library will host a professional day on the tasks of public collections related to the archiving of web and other internet content. The professional day, entitled “404 Not Found – Who will preserve the internet?” is a sequel to the ones held on November 15, 2018 and on October 13, 2017.

The program will provide an overview of the experiences, achievements and future plans of the web archiving pilot project operating as part of Hungary’s OKR (National Library System) program. Five keynote lectures will be delivered, followed by a round-table discussion with potential participants about opportunities for cooperation related to web archiving, planned as part of KDS-K (Hungarian abbreviation for Public Collection Digitization Strategy – Libraries).

Scheduled program:

10.30–10.35 Welcome speech will be delivered by Judit Hammerstein (Acting Director-General, NSZL)

10.35–10.50 Csaba Latorcai (Minister of State for Public Administration, Ministry of Human Capacities) will open the professional day

10.50–11.15 László Drótos (task manager, chief librarian, NSZL): Novelties of the Web archive of NSZL

11.15–11.40 Károly Kokas (Deputy Director-General, University of Szeged, Klebelsberg Library): Szegedicum – Opportunities of local web archiving within the web archiving program of NSZL

11.40–12.05 András Holl (Deputy Director-General (IT), Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences): noWebarchive – When not web archiving is the right way to archive the web

12.05–12.45: Coffee break

12.45–13.10 Gábor Palkó (senior research fellow, Institute for Literary Studies, Research Center for the Humanities of HAS; Co-Director, Centre for Digital Humanities, Eötvös Loránd University): Web harvesting for linguistic purposes at Eötvös Loránd University

13.10–13.35 Szabina Ilácsa (librarian, NSZL): Metadating issues related to websites

13.40–14.30 Free discussion about opportunities for cooperation worded in the KDS-K tender.
