Round-table discussions related to the exhibition entitled The Corvina Library and the Buda Workshop, a conference focusing on Júlia Szendrey, and the exhibition of Hymn, the national anthem of Hungary and the related Erkel sheet music will mark the celebration of the Day of Hungarian Culture on January 22, 2019.

Book presentation and special guided tours will also be held for visitors, who can explore the secrets of codices and can also have an insight into the everyday life of King Matthias’ Renaissance-era royal court.

 

Program of the Day of Hungarian Culture

9.30 – 14.30 Conference on Júlia Szendrey, Ceremonial Hall, Floor 6
At the professional meeting, literary and culture historians will approach and present the oeuvre, life roles and connection network of Júlia Szendrey from various aspects.

10.00 – 17.00 Exhibition of the manuscript of Hymn, the national anthem of Hungary, Manuscriptorium, Floor 6

11.00, 14.00 Secrets of the library – a walk in NSZL
During the walk in the building of National Széchényi Library, participants will get acquainted with the history and operation of the Palace and the Library, they will get information about the collections and tasks of NSZL, and they will be able to have a look at the various levels of the building, including the reading rooms.

16.00 Presentation ceremony of the book entitled Zoltán Szabó, Boardroom 516, Floor 5
Related to the Day of Hungarian Culture, National Széchényi Library will present a monograph of Zoltán Szabó published jointly by NSZL Publishing House and Kortárs Publishing House in 2018. Authors of the book are Erzsébet Tokaji-Nagy and Zsófia Szádeczky-Kardoss. Magda A. Szabó will have a discussion with the two authors and Zsuzsa Szabó. Excerpts from the book will be read out by actor Csaba Lázár.

Discount registration. A 50 % discount will be given off the annual Library registration fee.
