The world of theatre has also expanded to Africa, with the IFTR/FIRT (International Federation for Theatre Research) 2023 Congress being held in West Africa for the first time. A special theatre event with around 350 participants took place from 24 to 29 July 2023 in Accra, the capital of Ghana, at the University of Ghana.

Hungary was represented by Ildikó Sirató, researcher at the national library. Our colleague gave her lecture on 27 July entitled The Ring is Closed. Wagner's Variation on Nibelung-Myth as Animator-Director Staged it in 2015–2022 in Budapest Opera House.

The congress, whose thematic title (The Stories We Tell: Myths, Myth Making and Performance) was very comprehensive and inspiring for the conference participants, ended successfully with many new experiences and insights. In addition, it was exciting to learn about the history of the country, some of the customs of the tribes living there, and the inherently serene Ghanaian people.
