CHANGING SPACES. The Danube region on historical maps – exhibition opening ceremony

You and your friends are cordially invited to the opening ceremony of the exhibition entitled CHANGING SPACES. The Danube region on historical maps, 1650–1800, to be held in the Ars Librorum exhibition space of National Széchényi Library. The event will start at 4 p.m. on Thursday August 2, 2018.

The seventy precious items of the exhibition, quite a few of which will be exhibited for the first time, present the development of the cartography of the Danube region between 1650 and 1800. The exhibition is based on a rich collection of maps and landscapes that had been established by the marquises of Baden for military purposes.

Welcome speeches will be delivered by
Dr. László Tüske, Director-General of National Széchényi Library and
Volkmar Wenzel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Hungary

The event and cooperation will be appreciated by
Dr. Wolfgang Zimmermann, Director of Generallandesarchiv Karlsruhe and
Dr. Reinhard Johler, Director of the Institut für donauschwäbische Geschichte und Landeskunde

The exhibition will be presented by

Josef Wolf M. A., research fellow of Tübingen-based Institut für donauschwäbische Geschichte und Landeskunde, curator of the exhibition

Interpreters will be provided.

 

Two books were published related to the exhibition: the catalog of the exhibition entitled “Fließende Räume. Karten des Donauraums 1650–1800” (Changing Spaces. The Danube region on historical maps, 1650 1800), and a volume of essays entitled “Die späten Türkenkriege. Wahrnehmen – Wissen – Erinnern” (The Late Turkish Wars. Perception – Knowledge – Remembrance). Both books were published by Schnell & Steiner Publishing House, Regensburg, and they will be available on the site of the exhibition.
