This issue of Literary Journal presents Géza Gárdonyi born 150 years ago (in 1863). To quote Mátyás Berecz, Gárdonyi is not what the wide public usually thinks of him, a writer with one single book. His oeuvre has a prolific afterlife in many areas like fine arts, motion picture and even our everyday lives. „Literary Journal offers an easy-to-understand, interesting and impressive introduction to his work”, the director of the István Dobó Castle Museum in Eger said on the presentation event of the issue.

The magazine reveals interesting details about the background of the classic Hungarian movie based upon Gárdonyi’s novel Eclipse of the Crescent Moon, and we can also learn about Gárdonyi’s other novels as well as his relation to women.

Literary Journal, a quarterly joint publication of Magyar Napló and National Széchényi Library is a richly illustrated magazine of more than 100 pages, primarily dedicated to the broad audience, but also well usable as educational  material. Its thematic issues always focus on one classical author, period of literary history or cultural phenomenon. Apart from including texts so far unpublished, Literary Journal can also significantly broaden the horizon of re-reading. The previous issues were dedicated to Gyula Illyés, Sándor Márai, Géza Gárdonyi, Gyula Krúdy and Miklós Zrínyi.
