In line with Government Decree No. 484/2020 (XI. 10.), National Széchényi Library has suspended indefinitely its personally available public services as of Wednesday November 11, 2020. During this period, our reading rooms will be closed and all the events involving personal attendance will be cancelled.

On December 2, 2020, National Széchényi Library (NSZL) will host a professional day on web archiving for the fourth time. Due to the pandemic situation, the professional day can be followed by those interested on the Internet through the Teams application.

1956 – history on leaflets

Entitled “1956 – history on leaflets”, a new, freely accessible digital content service has been launched by National Széchényi Library. The database launched on October 23, 2020 offers an ample selection of leaflets and text posters made during the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight.

Visegrád Portraits. Artistic obeisance to the cooperation of Central European countries

Graphics made of famous people including, among others, footballer Ferenc Puskás, mechanical engineer Emil Škoda, physicist Maria Skłodowska-Curie, poet, prose writer Ľudmila Podjavorinská will be presented at the exhibition which is an artistic obeisance to the cooperation of Central European countries three decades ago.

Book donation from the United States

Recently, the Vice Consulate of Hungary in Houston donated some twenty volumes to National Széchényi Library in order to increase its stock. A major part of the books received from the Vice Consulate of Hungary in Houston are hungarica published in the diaspora, to which National Széchényi Library has not had an access. The books were collected from the holdings of the Texas community, some from the library of the Cistercian abbey in Dallas, which was closed down a decade ago.

NSZL to launch a new digital content service entitled “Földabrosz” (Earth Cloth)

The currently launched and continuously expanding database entitled “Földabrosz” (Earth Cloth) includes approximately 1,000 digitized maps that were printed in Hungary or abroad before 1850. The majority of the maps were made in the 18th century, but the collection also includes several 17th-century editions, once owned by founder of our Library, Count Ferenc Széchényi (1754–1820).
